FAQ

Common questions

Which calculator do I use to work out how many lots to trade?

Use the position size calculator. It takes your account balance, the risk you are willing to take and your stop distance, then returns a lot size for XAU/USD. Because 1 standard lot is 100 oz and one pip is 0.01, the output is directly usable on MT4, MT5, cTrader or FxPro Edge without conversion.

What is the pip value calculator for on gold, where one pip is 0.01?

The pip value calculator converts a price move into money for your chosen lot size. On gold, one pip is 0.01, so a 1.00-lot position moves $1 per pip and a 0.10-lot position moves $0.10 per pip. That figure is what turns a stop distance into a rupee or dollar risk number.

How is the margin calculator different from the position size calculator?

The margin calculator tells you what a position costs to hold; the position size calculator tells you what you should hold given your risk. They answer opposite questions. As a worked figure, at 1:200 a 0.10-lot gold position needs about $85.50 margin, which is a funding requirement, not a risk limit.

Do I need the profit calculator if my platform already shows profit and loss?

The profit calculator is for planning before you enter, when the platform shows nothing yet. It converts a target price move in pips into expected profit or loss for your lot size, so you can compare a setup against the risk. Use it alongside the pip value calculator for consistency.

What do pivot points add that the other four tools do not?

Pivot points give reference levels rather than money figures. They derive support and resistance from the prior session's high, low and close, which helps you place stops and targets at levels the market has already reacted to. The money tools then size the trade around those levels; neither replaces the other.
